101 Films International acquires Patrick Read Johnson's comedy film '25-5-77'
UK sales firm 101 Films International, the UK based sales division of Amcomri Entertainment, has secured worldwide distribution rights (excluding US) for Patrick Read Johnson’s autobiographical comedy '25-5-77'.

For release this Autumn 2022, 25-5-77 stars BAFTA nominated actor John Francis Daley (Game Night), alongside an exceptional supporting cast that includes Colleen Camp (Die Hard with a Vengeance), Neil Flynn (Mean Girls), Austin Pendleton (My Cousin Vinny), Justin Mentell (G-Force), Chris Owen (American Pie), Charlie Talbert (The Big Short) and Kenneth Mitchell (Captain Marvel).

25-5-77 is a coming-of-age comedy inspired by the true story of a nerdy, alienated, hopeful filmmaker Pat Johnson about growing up, falling in love, and becoming the very first fan of the movie that changed everything, Star Wars.  With its 45th anniversary this year, the film’s title stems from the 1977 release date of the original Star Wars film.

Produced by Academy Award nominated Gary Kurtz (Star Wars: A New Hope, American Graffiti) and written and directed by Patrick Read Johnson (Spaced Invaders, Dragonheart), this heartfelt true story features an original score by award-winning composer David E. Russo (Gotham, Sin City) with additional themes and songs by the legendary Grammy Award winning rock musician Alan Parsons (The Alan Parsons Project).

Eoghan Burke, VP of International Sales at 101 Films International comments, “We are delighted to be partnering with Ed Seaman, CEO of MVD Entertainment Group and his team on 25-5-77, a date in history that changed cinema-going forever!  This fresh new feature is sure to entice buyers and appeal to viewers alike.”

During the spring of 1977, Patrick Johnson (Daley), a sci-fi obsessed teenager, spends all of his free time making 8mm knockoffs of his favourite movies. Desperate to help Patrick escape the fate of small Midwestern town life, his mother Janet (Camp) makes a phone call to the editor of ‘American Cinematographer’ magazine and suddenly Patrick is invited to visit the magical world of Hollywood where he becomes the very first outsider to see the film that would change movies forever… Star Wars. But when he returns back to the reality of his tiny hometown, he struggles to choose between chasing his dreams of becoming a famous movie director or remaining trapped in the familiar world of his childhood.
